Bridge Railtrack Competence Centre

edilon)(sedra decided to set up a Bridge Railtrack Competence Centre for the entire edilon)(sedra Group at its location in Munich, Germany. The centre is intended to grow into a central start-up centre for national and international bridge construction projects – know-how, experience and information will be consolidated centrally for employees, interested parties and partners.

Overview of services:
• Project development for infrastructure companies (tram and national railways)
• Verification of rail stress and relative displacement
• Integrated bridge dilatation joints for mixed traffic (road/rail)
• Solutions for drainage systems, rail and track connectors and earthing
• Grid blasting of the rail and steel trough surfaces
• Quality construction-accompanying surveillance by a certified supervisor

Our Corkelast® ERS (Embedded Rail System) has been installed on bridges for around 50 years, all over the world.

Sample projects:
• Hardbrücke in Zurich, Switzerland
Installation of tram track on an existing main-road bridge in the city
centre of Zurich.
• Konrad-Adenauer bridge (steel structure) in Mannheim, Germany
Installation of LK1 rail profile to ensure ultra-low height demanded by the
operator.
• Danube bridge of the ÖBB in Tulln, Austria
• Dusseldorf Südbrücke across the Rhine, Germany
• New bridge projects for the public transport operators in Bern
and Zurich (Switzerland) as well as in Gmunden am Traunsee
(Germany) are currently underway

We are currently developing standardised solutions jointly with our customer, Deutsche Bahn AG to facilitate faster construction and shorter possession times with pre-fabricated superstructure components. The integrated rails in the bridge superstructure impress with a low height and optimal noise reduction. A significant advantage is also that the rails can be replaced whenever if required without intervention at the track – this leads to favourable LCC (Life Cycle Costs).

Fully customizable edilon)(sedra BIM models

In order to inform our customers and partners about how to integrate edilon)(sedra BIM models (Revit models) into a project’s BIM model, our Application Engineering department has produced a series of short videos.

One of the videos demonstrates a fully customizable BIM model of our Corkelast® EBS (Embedded Block System). The video includes different configurations and Levels of Development (LOD). The BIM model consists of different railing families which can be hosted in any surface. Moreover, it includes a number of parameters according to their LOD and our System information
sheets.

We hope this video gives you further insights into how BIM can be applied and are looking forward to your feedback! Please contact Jonás Recio Sánchez: J.Recio@edilonsedra.com

edilon)(sedra becomes member of buildingSMART® Spain

In April of this year edilon)(sedra has been accepted as a member of the Spanish chapter of buildingSMART®, the ‘home of openBIM’.

buildingSMART® is focusing on standardizing processes, workflows and procedures for Building Information Modeling (BIM). It’s a community of industry participants and users from around the world driving the transformation of the built asset economy through creation & adoption of open, international standards. The membership offers an excellent opportunity for edilon)(sedra to share knowledge and expertise in the field of BIM.

edilon)(sedra has produced a series of demo videos in which we are explaining to BIM engineers how edilon)(sedra BIM models (Revit models) can be used in case of applying our embedded rail systems. Underneath you can find two of those videos.

What do you think of the videos? We are looking forward to your feedback! Please contact Jonás Recio Sánchez: J.Recio@edilonsedra.com

edilon)(sedra investigates sustainable biobased polymers for railway systems

edilon)(sedra, in cooperation with Wageningen UR and Croda, is working on the development of next generation polymers for elastic rail fastening systems. The goal of the project is to develop environmentally-friendly biobased polymers which cure into an elastic rubber-like compound within a limited time.

These biobased polymers can be applied as elastic sound and vibration-reducing materials. The project team is studying various chemical research routes. The final material should have an optimal worksite processability. In addition it should meet specific mechanical and adhesion requirements.

BPM programme
The project is part of the large-scale research programme Biobased Performance Materials (BPM). The goal of the BPM programme is to develop high-quality materials based on biomass; materials that are increasingly applied in practice. The research focuses on two types of polymer materials: polymers produced by plants and polymers from biobased building blocks produced via biotechnology or chemical catalysis. The BPM programme is partly financed by the Top Sector Chemistry and is led by Wageningen UR Food & Biobased Research.

Technology Forum: state-of-the-art event for railway bridges

On the 8th of October 2015, edilon)(sedra held its 5th Technology Forum at the TECHNOSEUM – Museum for Technology and Labour in Mannheim, Germany.

High-profile, reputable speakers held lectures on the theme ‘Railway Bridges’.  Around 60 experts from the rail branch attended the forum and shared their most recent knowledge concerning planning, construction and maintenance of railway bridges.

The attendees enjoyed the evening together in a relaxed atmosphere after the technical presentations and discussions. For this, edilon)(sedra booked the historical reconstructed station ambience « Arbeiterkneipe“ (workers tavern) at TECHNOSEUM. In this particular ambience the attendees had the opportunity to deepen the discussions of the day and expand their personal network.
